Yorkies and Silkies. Can you recognize them apart? Two dog breeds that look very similar to each other. Today we will talk about differences between them and ho to easily recognize them apart.

First lets say, why they are so similar. Both dogs are very small, have similar lush coats, face expression and body type. The reason, why they are so similar is, that Silky Terrier is offspring of Yorkshire and Australian Terrier. Yorkie is a dog from England while Silky Terriers were bred in Australia.

The first difference is in their size. Silky Terrier is larger dog with height between 23 to 26 cms. Yorkshire Terrier height is around 17 cms. Of course, females are little bit smaller. Silky Terriers are also heavier with average weight around 5 kgs. Yorkie weight is around 3 kgs.

There are also some differences in personality. Yorkies are fearless and smart dogs. If they would be larger, they would be great guard dogs, because when they start barking, its very hard to stop them. Silkies are clever as well, but they are more one person dog. Silky Terrier is also more energetic, so they need little bit more excercise.

If you get Silky or Yorkshire Terrier, dont forget, that they are not typical small dogs. They enjoy all the doggy things, they love excercising and longer walks. They also love interactive toys, they are great with that! Try to socialize them, so they can play with other dogs. They are terriers after all!
