Large dogs might seem terryfing for some people, but the truth is, that they are most of the time gentle, calm and confident. They are not troublemakers, if they are trained and socialized well. There are a lot of giant dog breeds, but what are the largest ones?

Its not that easy to answer, because large can mean tall, but it can also mean heavy. Largest dogs in the world are Great Danes and Irish Wolfhounds, but heaviest are English Mastiffs with weight around 100 kgs. The heaviset mastiff named Aicama Zomba weighed 155 kilograms. Those dogs might look terryfiyng but in reality, they are very friendly, easy going and well tempered. In history, acording to American Kennel Club, they were matched up against bulls, gladiators, lions, tigers and bears!

Great Dane  is the owner of tallest dog world record. The average height is between 70 to 80 centimetres, but the tallest Great Dane – The Zeus stood an astounding 44 inches tall 111 centimetres. They were originally bred as hunting dogs, but today they are mostly friendly and loving companions. This is the real gentle giant, which needs a lot of attention from his family, otherwise he will be really sad.
