Dogs are amazing companions for people of all age. But seniors are great dog parents. That is because, they have a lot of time, which is one of the essential things to raise amazing and obedient dog.

There are 3 important factors, that dog for seniors should fit:
  • Smaller breed. Its easier to handle then giant dogs, especially when you fail the training
  • 2. Calm breed. Same reason.
  • 3. Adult dog. Seniors often times want peace in their life. Its hard to have peacefull life with little puppy. I would suggest all seniors to get adult, obedient and friendly dog from shelter.
One of the dogs, that are like that, is Shih Tzu. Friendly and playfull, two words that describes Shih Tzu the best. They dont require much excercise and they are very low shedding, which are great characteristics for senior owners. Shih Tzu is a dog breed, that was bred to be companion in Tibet. That is why Shih Tzu is friendly and trusting towards everyone, they were bred to be like that.

Another good dog for seniors is Pomeranian. Another affectionate, small and happy companion. Pomeranians are very friendly and playfull, so you should buy them a lot of different toys. But their biggest passion is just being your great companions and they definitely love snoozin in your lap.

Maltese is another good choice. Great dog for seniors, that dont like vacuuming. Maltese is very low shedding dog. These dogs were bred to be companions and today Maltese still lives up to its heritage. This is one of the smallest breed on the list with weigh only around 2 or 3 kgs. Thanks to that, they are easily portable, but also very fragile dogs.
