1) Myth

The Pomsky breed began as an Internet myth in 2011, when people were posting viral images of beautiful fluffy puppies claiming that it is a Husky and Pomeranian mix. Because those images were very popular, the breeders recognized a big interest about this mix and they developed a new designer dog breed – the Pomsky. It is one of the youngest crossbreeds of all.

2) Crossbreed

The pomsky is a crossbreed between male Pomeranian and female Husky. It has to be female Husky, otherwise it will be very problematic for a female pomeranian bearing a litter of larger puppies.

3) Unpredictable

Since the ancestors of Pomsky are very different, it is very hard to predict what apperance they will inherit. Most of the time they look like miniature Huskies, but it is not always the truth. They have a beautiful, silky, medium-length coat that is usually a combination of two colors and their eyes can be in many different colors, including hazel, blue, brown or green and it is not uncommon that they have every eye in different color.

4) Energetic and playful

This is almost always the truth, Pomskies have tons of energy and they need to vent it off. They love a good playtime, but they will also like to go out for a walk or jog anytime. It is important to keep your dog happy by providing enough of exercise.

5) Personality

Just like the appearance, even the personality is pretty unpredictable. It’s often assumed that a crossbreed will combine the best of two or more breeds, but genetics don’t always work that way. But a typical Pomsky is sweet, friendly and active. They have tendencies to chase cats and some other animals and they tend to be big barkers.

6) Shedding

Pomsky usually sheds a lot! That is why you should brush their coat regularly, even several times a week, to remove the dead hair and minimize the shedding. By brushing you will also eliminate mats and tangles. It is also recommended to trim their fur every three months.

7) Training

Pomsky tends to be intelligent and they responds extremely well to reward based training. The only exception is, when they inherit independent and stubborn nature of husky, than they will need consistent, calm and patient leader.

8) Size

Again, the size of the pomsky is quite unpredictable, but usually its height is between 10-15 inches which is 25-38 cm and their weight should be between 20-30 lbs which is 9-14 kg. But it is possible for a pomsky to even have height and weight of an adult Siberian Husky.

9) Lifespan

It is very hard to say, what is the life expectancy of a breed, that was developed 15 years ago. But it is believed, that Pomskies should have good lifespan around 13-15 years.
10) Health

Pomskies are not unhealthy breed, but both their parents suffer from some health issues which can be inherited by the pomsky. The most common are hip dysplasia, eye infections, skin allergies but also ectopy or tooth decay.
