Everybody knows Golden and Labrador Retriever. But what about other retriever – Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever. Today we will talk about this not so popular retriever.

Duck Toller breed was fully developed in early 20th century to lure and retriever water birds. It is believed, that the crossing involved Labrador, Golden, Chesapeake Bay and Flat-Coated retrievers. They were recognized by Canadian Kennel Club in 1950s.

Thanks to their orange coat, Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever look little bit like foxes. That is why, there were rumours, that they were bred with foxes. But that is not possible, there is no way, how to crossbreed two different animals like that.

Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever is amazing for apartment living, they can adapt to it very easily - but they have a lot of energy. They might be the smallest of all retrievers, but they have typical exercise needs similar to other retrievers. They need at least daily long walks, but they love jogging and swimming a lot. And they are also very playfull, so they will probably love playing fetch or other game like that.

Duck Tollers are also very intelligent. Combine that with their friendliness and eager to please personality and you have easily trainable dog. The only annoying thing is their mouthiness. They are retrievers, so they were bred to put thing into their mouth. That is why, especially when they are puppies, they will be chewing and nipping everything and everyone. But they are pretty gentle and they grow out of this stage pretty quickly.
