1) Origin
The Mudhol Hound was developed in Deccan plateau of India, in the regions of Karnataka and Maharashtra where it was bred for centuries as a companion, hunter and guard. The breed was and still is quite popular in the city of Mudhol in Karnataka, which is where the breed got its name. The breed is also known as the Caravan Hound.

2) Raja of Mudhol
The royal family of Mudhol and raja of Mudhol is credited for reviving and promoting the breed in India and in foreign countries as well. It is said, that he gifted several puppies to leaders of other countries, for example he gifted two puppies to King George V in the beggining of the 20th century and this way, he made the Mudhol Hound more popular in Western world.

3) Military
The Mudhol Hound is a real pride of India and the first native Indian breed that is officially used by military. Thanks to their stregth, loyalty, trainability and high speed, they are great for patrolling borders and surveillance work. They can also be trained as bomb sniffing dogs.

4) Temperament
The Mudhol Hound is bred for centuries as a hunter and guard, which forms the breeds temperament. They are reserved and alert around strangers and they have natural protective instinct over their family and owners. This is just extraordinary protector. On the other hand, they are loving, loyal and affectionate when they are with their family, with the pack. This is highly intelligent dog, that learns new command fairly quickly, but due to their high strength and lets say dominant and independent personality, they need experienced, firm and patient trainer who will properly train them and socialize them.

5) Appearance
According to the official breed standard, this is a shorthaired, lop‐eared, working sight hound of Asiatic type; built for running long distances over difficult terrain in acute heat. This is a very tall, athletic and quite muscular, but still elegant dog breed.

6) Coat
Typically the Mudhol Hound has short and dense coat without any feathering. But sometimes a Mudhol puppy is born with feathering. It is considered as an abnormality, but it can happen. The Mudhol can be found in many colors and color combinations, including white, black, grey, fawn red or cream.

7) Size
This is probably the tallest of all Indian dog breeds, with average height between 66-82 cm, which is 26-32 inches and weight is typically between 65-73 lbs, which is 29-33 kg. Females tend to be little bit smaller than males.

8) Pride of India
Not only that the Mudhol Hound is serving in Indian military these days, they are also beloved and respected for fighting for Indian freedom and independence against Brittish army in the past. In 2005 the Indian Postal Department released a postage stamp with Mudhol Hound on it to celebrate this majestic Indian breed.

9) Other pets
Well, the Mudhol Hound is a great hunter and you should never forget it. They do have higher prey drive, so they might chase and even kill other smaller household pets. But they can definitely live with other dogs in the family, especially, if they are raised together from the puppyhood.

10) Health
This is incredibly healthy and hardy dog breed, that suffer from hereditary ilnesses only very rarely. Sometimes, they can suffer from bloating, hip dysplasia or eye problems, but it is not very common and it is truly a very healthy dog. The average lifespan of Mudhol Hounds is between
