1) Purpose

The reason, why the Poodle and Maltese were bred together was to create the best small and affectionate companion. It should combine the Maltese friendly and loving nature with Poodles high intelligence and no shedding coat. Their intended role is to be a wonderful pet that would fit into any family’s lifestyle. And i think that the breeders hit their mark, because Maltipoos make an extraordinary family companions.

2) Coat

As with all crossbreeds, the coat can vary widely. Some Maltipoos have wavy and curly coat while others have straight coat. There is no official coat color and you can find Maltipoos in almost every color. But the light colors are more dominant, since Maltese is a white dog.

3) Good for Novices

This is a great dog choice for novices or even first time dog owners. Their sweet temperament and small body makes them easily managable and they are pretty eager to please and intelligent, which makes them fairly easy to train dogs.

4) Hypoallergenic

To be honest, there is no 100% hypoallergenic dog, since they all produce some dander or saliva. But since Maltipoos tend to be non or very low shedding dogs, they come very close to be completely hypoallergenic, which might be enough for people suffering from dog allergies.

5) Exercise needs

Although this is an active breed, thanks to their small size, it is not that hard to deal with their energy. Daily longer walk is a must and if you have younger dog some indoor vigorous excerise is great as well.

6) Designer dog breed

The Maltipoo is not classified as a dog breed, because they are what is called designer dog breeds. You can also call them crossbreeds or mixed breedes, it is all the same. Designer dogs are the result of breeding between two breeds for a specific reason. The Maltipoo is a result of breeding toy or miniature poodle with Maltese.

7) Generations

There is a 1st and 2nd generation of Maltipoos. The first generation Maltipoo has two purebred parents – the Poodle and the Maltese while the second generation Maltipoo is a descendant of Maltipoo mom and Maltipoo dad.

8) Social dogs

Maltipoos love to be around people. They are playful and affectionate and they want to spend every minute with their family. Mostly by playing and cuddling with them.

9) Health

While Maltipoo is very healthy dog, they suffer from some health issues, just like evyrone. The most common are hip and liver disorder, as well as epilepsy and progressive retinal atrophy.

10) Around Children

Maltipoo loves children, but you should never leave a young few years old kid unsupervised with any kind of dog, Maltipoo included. Young Children can be very rough towards dogs and even the calmest dog can loose their temper because of that.
