Shiloh shepherd is new dog breed, that was developed by crossing GSD with some other breeds. The breeders did not wanted to create a new breed, they wanted to preserve the type of German Shepherd they rememberd from their childhood. But in 1990s a new breed was registered in AKC and FCI – the Shiloh Shepherd.

Shiloh Shepherd has powerful appearance and they are really big dogs. They are around 75 cms tall and weigh around 55 kgs. So they are much bigger than German shepherd, but other than that, they look pretty similar.

It probably will not be surprising, when i tell you, that these dogs are intelligent and trainable. They are great courageous companions, that will protect their family when needed. They are also pretty confindent, which makes the socialization and trianing easier. Shiloh Shepherd is overall very loyal, calm and easy going dog.

Another not so surprising fact is, that they need regular exercise. They are not hyperactive dogs, so they do not need 4 hours walks every day, but they need to romp their energy, especially when they are younger. Since they are very intelligent, try to combine physical exercising with training or some mental activity. I can guarantee you, that your Shiloh Shepherd will love it.

What is a difference between Shiloh Shepherd and German Shepherd? Well Shiloh Shepherd is much bigger. But more important are the differences in temperament. Shiloh She pherd tends to be softer, calmer and more easy going. They are more laid back, while German Shepherd needs more work. GSD is also more independent and strong willed.

Their health is little bit problematic, because they suffer from some serious health problems. They have problems with hips and elbows and they do suffer from dysplasia. They also suffer from stomach disorders, so you might test different food types and brands until you find the right one. They also suffer from bone diseases.
