Huskador - Labsky - TOP 10 Facts

1) Origin
The Siberian Husky has a long history with Chukchi people in eastern Siberia and Labradors history dates back to 19th century. The Huskador breeding dates back to 1990s, but of course, it is almost certain that there were unintentional crosses before that. But the intentional breeding with a goal of creating a new dog started in 1990s. ​

2) Designer dog breed
The Huskador is sometimes called as a designer dog breed, which is basically different, more fancy name for crossbreed. The designer dog breed is a mix between two purebred dogs, in this case a Labrador and Husky.

3) Companions
Both Labradors and Huskies are known as good companions. Both breeds love human companionship and they are usually extremely friendly dogs. So as the Huskador. These dogs create a very strong bond with people and they just want to spend all the time with its family. They also typically do not have problems with other dogs in the family. Some Huskadors can have higher prey drive, but most often they can happily live with other household pets as well, especially if they are socialized together from the puppyhood. Overall, the Huskadors are known as absolutely loving and loyal companion dogs.

4) Exercise
But even the Huskador is not for everyone, because Huskadors tend to be very active dogs that need a lot of daily physical stimulation to stay healthy and happy. They are best suited for families and people who have time on daily long walks and proper physically active playtime. Because the Huskador is also very intelligent breed, they need some mental stimulation as well.

5) Size
The Labsky is a medium to large sized athletic dog breed with average height between 20-24 inch which is 50-60 cm and weight is usually between 40-70 pounds, which is 19-31 kg. The females are naturally little bit smaller than males.

6) Coat
The Huskador coat comes in several colors and color combinations. The main colors are black, chocolate, yellow, red and grey. Often times, the coat will be a mix of colors. These dogs have a very dense doublecoat which is protecting them from a cold weather. They are better suited for cold regions than hot weather regions, but this is pretty adaptable breed. The coat is typically in medium length and relatively silky to touch.

7) Shedding
If there is one disadvantage of owning Labsky, than it is the constant shedding. They really shed a lot and you should be prepared for a lot of vacuuming. You should brush their coat regularly, during the shedding season even daily to minimize the shedding. But its impossible to stop it.

8) Training
The trainability of Huskador really depends if it inherits more Husky or Labrador personality. Because while the Labrador Retriever is extremely easily trainable, intelligent and very eager to please, the Siberian Husky is known for being more stubborn and independent dog. It is also very intelligent breed, but the stubborness makes the training harder. It is impossible to say, if your Huskador will have Labrador or Husky personality and trainability, most of the time, they will be somewhere in between. Just like with all dogs, you should start the training as soon as possible. These dogs best react to positive reinforcement, so prepare a lot of treats and always praise the dog for good behaviour.

9) Eyes
Most often the Huskadors have triangular shaped head with ears that can be droopy or erect. Most often they have brown or amber eyes, but they can have light blue eyes. They can inherit these blue eyes from Siberian Husky parent. It is also common for the breed to show heterochromia, which means that they have each eye in different color.

10) Health
The Huskador is prone to the same health issues as its parent breeds, and those include hip dysplasia, allergies, eye problems such as cataracts and they can be prone to obesity, which is why you should closely monitor the amount of food you are giving to them. The average lifespan is around 12 or 13 years.
