East European Shepherd is not very well known dog and even if you saw him, you probably thought that it was German Shepherd. East European Shepherd was created in former Soviet Union from German Shepherd and native russian dogs. The goal was to create large, cold ressistant breed that would serve as border patrol, police and military dog.

This breed is very confident and loyal, they would do anything for their pack. They bond closely to their family. But if you want East European shepherd as family companion, you will have to spend a lot of time on obedience training, because naturally, they are not family companions but working dogs. They remain pretty calm indoor, but they are protectors by heart, so they monitor situation around the home 24/7. They are not agressive, unless they are provoked, but they are very cautious around strangers.

Just like German Shepherd, these dogs are very intelligent and they love working. Because of these two traits, they are highly trainable. But they need strong leader and good motivation. As with all dogs, especially when they are young, positive reinforcement training, where you will reward your dog for good behaviour is the way to go.
