Appearance
The Continental Bulldog is already recognized by Swiss and German kennel club, o i will based the appearance description on the information from those sources. According to it, the Continental Bulldog is medium sized, smooth coated and squared dog breed.

You can tell on first sight that this is bulldog type of a dog, but in comparsion with some other Bulldogs, for example the English Bulldog, the Conti is much more lean and muscular. The average height of the Continental Bulldog should be between 40-46 cm, which is 15-21 inch and weight is typically between 22-30 kg, which is 48-66 pounds. Females tend to be little bit smaller.

The head is still pretty big, but definitely not as massive as English Bulldog has. Also the wrinkles are not that deep, but they are still visible. Overall, the Continental Bulldog has much healthier appearance, than the English Bulldog.

The coat of the Continental Bulldog is short, glossy and flat. You can find them in allmost all colors, the most common would probably be brindle and fawn. Blue color is not desired, but the dogs can have white markings and black mask. All the colors should be accompanied by a dark nose.

Personality
This is a friendly, attentive and confident dog breed. The Conti is pretty alert and it can be trained to be a good watchdog that will alert you by barking when something wierd is going on around your home. But do not worry, this is not a big barker, the barking is rather occasional.

This is a charming breed, that is very affectionate and loyal to its owner and family. They are also pretty playful and enjoy a company of older kids who know ho to play with dogs gently. Of course, you should always monitor the situation with a dog and very young kids, but that is true for all the breeds. Overall, this is amazing family companion.

The Conti is more energetic than other Bulldog breeds. If you are only familiar with the English Bulldog, than the Continental Bulldog is definitely much more energetic. But it is not a hyperactive dog. Actually, the Continental Bulldog is pretty inactive indoors, which is why they are perfect choice for apartment living. They need couple longer walks a day accompanied by some playtime or training session to stay healthy and happy. You can take your Continental Bulldog on longer hikes, because they can walk for hours.

History
As i said in the beggining of the video, this is still fairly young dog breed. They were developed in the beggining of the 21st century by an English Bulldog breeder Imelda Anghern. She was trying to create a, lets say, better version of an English Bulldog, that will keep the dogs loving personality, but that will not have so many health issues and that will be more athletic.

I would say, that she did a great job, because the Continental Bulldog is definitely healthier, it does not suffer so much from breathing issues, they can give natural births and they are more atheltic. The Continental Bulldog is more similar to the original Bulldog than the English Bulldog.

The Continental Bulldog was developed by crossing English Bulldogs with Olde English Bulldogs. The breeding process started in 2001 and the Swiss Kennel Club permitted the creation of the new breed in 2004. To this day, the Conti was officially recognized in Switzerland and Germany, but their popularity is gaining and i am sure it is only a matter of time when other kennel clubs recocgnize them as well.

Health and grooming
It is still soon to say what is the Continental Bulldog lifespan, since it is still a young dog breed, but according to some people it should be around 12 or 13 years. Which is great for a bulldog type of a dog. As i already mentioned, they are healthier than other bulldogs, but they can still suffer from some health issues, for example hip and elbow dysplasia, ear infections, eye problems and bloating.

Thanks to the short and smooth coat, it is not hard to maintain the Continental Bulldogs coat in top condition. Just brush it from time to time to minimize the shedding and it should be enough. You should take proper care about the dogs wrinkles and wipe them, so they are dry and clean to prevent infections. Just like with all dogs you should regularly check the dogs ears, eyes and nails and clean them or clip them if needed.
