Cockapoos are a crosses between a Cocker spaniels and Poodles. They are one of the oldest so called designer dog breeds and they have been bred since the 1950s. The goal of the breeding was to create a dog that would be intelligent and non shedding like poodle and friendly and loyal like a Cocker Spaniel.
2) Social dogs
Cockapoos love people. They are extremely friendly and outgoing and they want to be involved to almost every activity. They love to go for a walk, playtime and they even enjoy the training. This is definitely not a coach potatoe.
They have happy and cheerful personality and they will definitely boost your mood everytime they are around you. That is why they are often times used as a therapy dogs – they just make us smile and provide comfort and affection.
4) No shedding
Cockapoos should be non shedding dogs, even though, it can happen that they shed a little bit. But it is definitely nothing terrible. They should also be a hypoallergenic, but the truth is, that no dog is 100% hypoallergenic and you should spend some time with your future dog before buying it if you suffer from allergies.
5) Different sizes
There are four different sizes of cockapoos – the Teacup cockapoo is less than 6 pounds and 10 inches. The Toy Cockapoo is around 10 inches and 12 pounds. The miniature Cockapoo weighs between 13-18 pounds and they are between 11-14 inches tall. And finally, the Standard, or sometimes Maxi cockapoo weighs more than 19 pounds and is at least 15 inches tall.
6) No odor
The Cockapoos have an awesome unique trait. They have only a little of the typical doggy odor.
The cockapoos coat is usually not hard for maintance and it can be left natural. The long hair around the eyes should be trimmed so that the cockapoo can see clearly. You should pay attention to their floppy ears, since they can suffer from infections.
8) Dog for novices
Cockapoos are great choice for the first time dog owners. They are small, easily manageble, extremely sweet and friendly. They are also fairly easily trainable and intelligent. I would say that this is one of the best breed choice for novices.
Every dog breed is prone to certain health problems and Cockapoo is no exception. But overall they are pretty healthy dogs with great lifespan – around 15 years. The most common health problems are hip dysplasia, cataracts, liver disease, ear infections and all kind of allergies.
Cockapoo movement is free and pretty proud with their head and tail held high.. But when they have a lot of energy, their gait is very bouncy.
