1) Fighters

One of the original puproses why the Boston Terriers were bred was pit fighting. But they were much larger than the Boston Terriers today and they used to weigh 40 – 45 pounds. The other, more popular original purpose was rodent hunt.

2) People Loving dog

The Boston Terrier loves people and want to be around them all the time. He is very eager to please and playful companion, even for children. They are also very charming and fun to be around, which makes you happy to také your Boston Terrier everywhere with you.

3) Not a French Bulldog

People very often confuse the Boston Terrier with French Bulldog. You can tell them apart by their coat color – Boston Terrier is always brindle, seal or black with white markings. If they have any other color it is a French Bulldog. Their ears are also good recognition sign - Boston Terriers have pointed ears while French Bulldogs have rounded ones.

4) Guard Dogs

Next to the Lhasa Apso, Boston Terrier is one of the two best small guard and watchdogs. They are not big barkers, but when they bark, you can be sure that something suspicious is going on around your house.

5) American Gentleman

Because their coat coloration resembles a tuxedo and because they one of the first breeds bred in the USA, they are often times called the American Gentleman.

6) Caesarean Section

Many Boston Terriers needs a Caeserean Section when giving birth, just like French Bulldogs. It is because their head is unproportionally large to their bodies and it would be unsafe to make a natural birth.

7) Size

The Boston Terrier is smooth coated, short headed, compactly built well balanced dog with height between 15 to 17 inches which 38 to 43 cm. There are a big differences in the weight of the Boston Terrier and even their breed standard state, that it can be anywhere between 10 – 25 lbs which is 4 to 11 kg

8) Massachusetts state dog

The boston Terrier was first developed in the state of Massachusetts, so it is no wonder that they honor them as their state dog. Boston Terrier has held this honor since 1979.

9) Celebrities

Many famous celebrities fall in love with the charming Boston Terrier. The celebrity list who owned a Boston Terrier includes Denise Richards, Robin Williams, Gerald Ford, Louis Armstrong, Helen Keller or Marylin Manson.

10) War hero

The famous Sergeant Stubby was a dog who server in the World War I. He helped soldiers by warning of gas attacks and he also helped medics to find wounded soldiers. He was promoted to Sergeant after he spotted an attacking German Spy. Sergeant Stubby was a mutt, but it is believed, that he had some Boston Terrier blood.
