Aussies have quite predictable coat color, most of the time it is in red, red merle, blue merle or black. Border collies have more variety in their color. It can be black red Merle and Blue Merle Border Collies. In addition, they also have several others, including white and black, white and red, sable and more. Border Collies coat is little bit rougher. Because of that, they requiers more grooming to keep their fur healthy and good looking.

The two main differences are, that Border Collies are more active. This does not mean that Aussies are couch potatoes, no, they are hyperactive as well, but Border Collies are something else. They need to be busy all the time, otherwise they might become bored very quickly, which might lead to some unwanted behaviour problems, like excessive barking. Border Collies are probably more intelligent as well, actually they are probably the most intelligent breed in the world.

On the other hand, Aussies are much more dominant. While Border Collies are great for novice owners, i would not recommend Australian shepherd to novice. They are just too dominant and loyal, which means, they need strong, bud firm leader. Both breeds should be socialized early and both can start with training very early as well.
