As a puppies, Belgian Malinois and Dutch Shepherd look almost the same. But when they grow up, there are some important differences in their appearance and it is possible to distinquish them apart. The size is quite similar, Belgian Malinois height is around 65 cms and Dutch shepherd height is around 60 cms.

The biggest difference is their coat. The Dutchie has brindled stripes and the Malinois has fawn coat with usually black facial mask. Its important to say, that the Dutch Shepherd coat is always in some form of brindle. The coat length is different as well. Malinois has short coat, while the dutch shepherd come in three coat varieties – short, long and wired.

Now lets talk about their temperament, and as i said, now it is comparsion between Dutch Shepherd and Belgian Malinois, but also between Dutch and Belgian Shepherd in general. Both dog breeds are very trainable, they are hard workers, hyperactive companions, impulsive and protective.

Some people call Dutch shepherds as Malinois with stripes, because they act almost the same. There really are not important differences in their personality. But from my experience, Dutch shepherds are little bit friendlier. Because of that, i believe, that they are better choice, if you want active dog, but you also have family with kids.
