American Leopard Hound Dog Breed - Facts and Info

The height of typical American Leopard Hound is between 21 to 27 inches and weight is between 35 to 65 pounds for females and 45 to 75 for males. As you would expect from a hunting dog breed, American Leopard Hound is pretty muscular dog.

Those are doublecoated dogs and their coat is dense and smooth. They come in several different colors and three patterns – the leopard, solid and brindle. They can have white markings, but no more than one third of their whole body.

The temperament of American Leopard Hound is described as loving and affectionate, which is quiet the opposite from other hounds, that are most of the time pretty aloof. The love for their owners and family is really big, and they tend to be pretty protective.

As with almost all hunting dog breeds, even the American Leopard Hound have mind of its own and have stubborn streaks. You must be patient and firm owner to manage this behaviour.

This is relatively healthy dog breed, but as all dogs, they can suffer from some health issues – including hip dysplasia, hearing and sight problems. Their lifespan is pretty long between 12 – 15 years.

As with any other working breed, even American Leopard Dog needs exercise. Long daily walks are a must and there should also be some more difficult exercise. They love to have a work, which means, you should also stimulate their mind.
