Maltese and Shih tzu might look similar for untrained eye, but there are a lot of differences between them. The first, but not that important difference is, that Maltese was bred in Mediterranean region and Shih Tzu is Chinese breed.
More important are differences in their appearance. Shih Tzu is larger and heavier than Maltese. Shih tzu weighs around 6 kgs and their height is most of the time over 25 cms, while Maltese height is around 20 cms but weighs only around 4 kgs. Maltese is slightle shorter, but it has larger eyes than Shih Tzu
These dogs are great for older people. They are excelent and affectionate lap dogs, which is great thing when you are at home. But they also dont need that much exercise. Slow and calm walks are great for these dogs. Maltese might have little bit more energy, but its true, that both dogs will be more than happy with regular daily walks.
