The origin of the Collies is rather unknown, but it is believed that Rough collies ancestors were living in Scottish Highlands as herding dogs. They were probably brought there by the Romans in the 5th century.
Rough Collie is known for its dense double coat in common colour variations of sable, blue merle or tricolour black, tan and white. Their close cousins, the Smooth Collies is actually the same breed, and the only difference between them is their coat. The Rough collie is longhaired version while the Smooth collie is short haired.
3) Queen Victoria
Queen Victoria was a big dog lover and she owned a lot of different dog breeds. She also adopted a couple of Rough Collies when she was visiting neighboring castles in the U.K. This definitely helped rough collie and incresed its popularity a lot.
In the 1950s the Rough Collie popularity incresead one more time. It was thanks to the famous Lassie dog. The Lassie showed how affectionate, faithful and loyal Rough Collies are, especially when she saved Timmy from the well.

It is true that Hollywood sometimes exaggerates, but they were right about the Collies. They make extraordinary family companions. And they love children as well. This is a dog that will bond with whole family, not with just one person.
The Rough collies are vocal dogs and they are known for barking when they are bored and want more attention. And they are also known for nipping our heels during the playtime. This is because of their herding history. It is important to teach the Collie not to nip, especially if they will live with children.
7) Collie Eyes

Collies are intelligent and eager to please dogs, which makes them highly trainable. Collies respond well to consistent, reward-based training. This is medium sized dog with average height between 20-24 inches which is 51-61 cm and average weight between 40-65 pounds, which is 18-29 kg.
Rough Collies are typically pretty healthy dogs, but just like every other dog breed, they are prone to some health issues. The most common are skin allergies, optical disorders and arthritis.
