The Labradoodle was developed in 1988 in Australia by crossing Labrador Retrievers with Poodles. The goal was to create a dog breed, that would be able to help and assist people in need – for example blind or autist people and a dog that would be hypoallergenic.
There are three different sizes of Labradoodles, depending on the size of the Poodle used for the first-generation breeding. The miniature Labradoodle should be 14-16 inches tall and 15-26 pounds heavy. The medium Labradoodle height is between 17-20 inches and weight between 30-45 pounds. Finally, the standard labradoodle should be 21-24 inches tall and 50-65 pounds heavy.

Both Poodles and Labs are known for their extraordinary intelligence, so its no wonder the Labradoodle is very smart as well. And they are eager to please as well. Just like Labs, they will do anything for a treat, which is the best reward for positive behaviour.
Thanks to the Poodle genes, Labradoodles have chance to be a hypoallergenic and non shedding dogs. And most of the Labradoodles do inherit this poodle coat, but it is not on 100%, there are some Labradoodles with Labrador coat. Either way, both coat types requiere regular brushing, so be prepared for that.
Labradoodles love to be around people, they are very social and they will want to spend every minute with you. They are very friendly towards strangers and other dogs too. Labradoodles are also pretty playful and easygoing. They are just the perfect family companions.
Labradoodles love to swim! In hot summer, the best activity for Labradoodles is a good swim in a lake. And if you can provide them with some small pool on your yard, they will love it. They inherit this behaviour from the Labs, who are even bigger water lovers.
There are a lot of different coat types and colors of Labradoodles, from the curly Poodle coat to a flat like Labrador type of a coat and anything in between. The colors include silver, apricot, cream, chocolate and black among others.
Many people fall in love with Labradoodles, including a lot of celebrities, including Tiger Woods, Jeremy clarkson, Jennifer Aniston, Graham Norton and Lance Bass.
Labradoodles are pretty healthy dogs, but just like with any other breed, they suffer from some health issues. The most common are hip and elbow dysplasia, ear infections, skin allergies and epilepsy.
Labradoodles are highly active dogs and they require daily long walks. If you can jog with them, that is even better and as i already mentioned, they do love swimming. Some vigorous playful exercise is always good for Labradoodles. If you will not give them enough of the physical stimulation, they might become little bit desctructive.
