There are four different types of Belgian Shepherd - The best known is Belgian Malinois, than we have Belgian Lakenois, Groenendale and Tervuren. In every other country than USA, Belgian Shepherd is one breed, that comes in four varieties. But American Kennel Club has decided, that every variety should be considered as a separate breed. So there is no Belgian Shepherd in United States of America. And it is even harder than that, because they decided to rename Belgian Groenendale to Belgian Sheepdog. Which is really stupid, in my eyes, because all four varieties are sheepdogs. But this is current situation around Belgian Shepherd, it might be a little bit confusing, but thats how it is.
The reason, why rest of the world consider Belgian Shepherd as a one breed is, that the only difference, between four varieties is type of their coat. All four varieties have similar size, temperament, health problems and other characteristics.
