Shiloh shepherd is new dog breed, that was developed by crossing GSD with some other breeds. The breeders did not wanted to create a new breed, they wanted to preserve the type of German Shepherd they rememberd from their childhood. But in 1990s a new breed was registered in AKC and FCI – the Shiloh Shepherd.
Shiloh Shepherd has powerful appearance and they are really big dogs. They are around 75 cms tall and weigh around 55 kgs. So they are much bigger than German shepherd, but other than that, they look pretty similar.
It probably will not be surprising, when i tell you, that these dogs are intelligent and trainable. They are great courageous companions, that will protect their family when needed. They are also pretty confindent, which makes the socialization and trianing easier. Shiloh Shepherd is overall very loyal, calm and easy going dog.
Another not so surprising fact is, that they need regular exercise. They are not hyperactive dogs, so they do not need 4 hours walks every day, but they need to romp their energy, especially when they are younger. Since they are very intelligent, try to combine physical exercising with training or some mental activity. I can guarantee you, that your Shiloh Shepherd will love it.
What is a difference between Shiloh Shepherd and German Shepherd? Well Shiloh Shepherd is much bigger. But more important are the differences in temperament. Shiloh She pherd tends to be softer, calmer and more easy going. They are more laid back, while German Shepherd needs more work. GSD is also more independent and strong willed.
Their health is little bit problematic, because they suffer from some serious health problems. They have problems with hips and elbows and they do suffer from dysplasia. They also suffer from stomach disorders, so you might test different food types and brands until you find the right one. They also suffer from bone diseases.
Shedding is one of the most frustrating thing about dogs. But it is natural and normal process. It is process of loosing old and damaged hair. But the amount of shedding vary a lot and mostly it depends on the breed.
Well this is the most obvious thing. By brushing you will help your dog to loose excessive fur. I suggest you daily brushing during your walk, so your dog will loose its hair outside and you can keep your home clean. Brushing will also keep your dogs coat cleaner and softer.
Excessive shedding might be result of poor nutrition. Start giving your dog healthy diet. This means no grain dog food with a lot of meat in it. Brushing and nutrition are the most important factors if you want to minimize the dogs shedding, but there are some other tips you might try.
If your dog sheds more than he should, it might be a result of a lot of stress. Your dog should have enough of mental and physical exercise and he should not be left alone for a long periods of time. If you eliminate the stress, you might lower the shedding as well.
4) Medical Problem
If your dogs coat does not look healthy and he sheds really a lot, much more than he should to, its probably time to go and see a vet. Excessive hair loss can be a result of these medical problems: Fleas, Parasites, Fungal infections, bacterial infections, kidney and liver diseases, cancer, immune disease or allergy. But only your veterinarian can tell, what is the right diagnose.
5) Fresh Water
Your dog should have access to fresh water all day long. How does this connect to shedding? Well, dehydrated dog will have dry skin, which will cause the dog sheds more.
Add some nutrition supplements to your dogs diet. I can recommend you the fish oil or flaxseed oil. It should lower the shedding and it will definitely make your dogs coat look much better – it will be more shiny. You can also buy some Omega 3 fatty acids products.
I think, that there is a dog breed for everyone, its all about choosing the right one. On of the most important aspect is size of the dog. First of all, i would love to say that it is hard to generalize all dog breeds into one large category, like large dogs. But all 10 advantages are valid for most of the large dog breeds. Of course, you will always find some exceptions.
From my experience, large dogs have more confidence. They will not be scared of other animals like small dogs, which makes them less agressive towards other animals. It also makes the socialization easier. I am sure you noticed, that the most agressive dogs are the little chihuahuas, not the Great Danes.
Another big advantage is, that large dogs have bigger stamina and endurance. 7) Endurance If you want a partner for mountain hiking, running or cycling, you should get larger dog. They have bigger stamina. It is true for most large dogs, especially the hunting ones. But of course, there are exceptions and you can find very active small dog. Yes, i am talking about you, Jack Russell Terrier.
Large dogs are just more laid back and more patient. This makes them amazing companions for kids. They are more „cool-headed“ than their small cousins. Most of large breeds will tolerate kids around them without problems.
And not only they are laid back, they are also much more gentle. I am sure you heard about a term „Gentle Giant“. It is not true with all of them and i would say you will find the same number of gentle dogs in small dogs. But a lot of time, when people see giant dog, they see agressive dog. But most of the time it is not true. For example Great Danes or some Mastiffs are the most gentle dogs you can own.
White Swiss Shepherd, also known as Berger Blanc Suisse looks like typical shepherd, only in white color. As the name suggest, it is a white dog developed in Switzerland. And it is fairly new dog breed, developed in twentieth century. The first White shepherd was imported to Switzerland in 1970s from North America, where White Shepherds were accepted earlier than in Europe.
If i should describe White Swiss Shepherd temperament, i would definitely use two words – Active and Intelligent. Their intelligence is very high and they are capable of learning even the most difficult tricks. It is because they are not only intelligent but very eager to please and loyal.
And it is true, they are very loyal, someone can even say clingy. They will attach to their owners very closely and they want to follow them everywhere. They will be your shadow. On the other hand, they are kinda aloof towards strangers, but once they get to know them, they are friendly to them. They are also okay with other dogs. They are very rarely agressive without provocation.
Last thing i would love to say is, that there are some others White Shepherds. You can meet some classic German Shepherds who happen to be white for some reason. It can be cause because they are albinos for example. An albino is an organism that has deficient pigmentation, which causes pink eyes, pale skin, and colorless hair. Its important to know, that White Swiss Shepherd is not an albino.

Nuts are full of protein and healthy fat and definitely healthy for people. And dogs can go nuts for nuts. But a lot of nuts are unhealthy and some of them even toxic for dogs. Today i will tell you which nuts are good and which are bad for your dog.
First of all, lets say, that dogs do not need nuts in their diet to be healthy. But they love them, so you can use healthy nuts as good training treats for example. Dogs should have all the necessary nutrients from dog food.
Lets start with the nuts, that are okay for dogs. The first one are peanuts, but they should not be salted or coated. Natural peanuts are harmless for dogs and they can be a good reward for good dog behaviour. Peanut butter is also okay, but you should always read a label. If the peanut butter contains xylitol, do not buy it, because it is sweetener that is toxic for dogs.
Walnuts, Hazelnuts and Pecans are another category. All of them are not toxic to dogs and they are high on fat. So far, they are similar to other nuts. But, all these three nuts are bigger, so they might cause choking, especially with smaller dogs and dogs that are not chewing their treats.
There is one nut, that is actually toxic for dogs. It is Macademia Nut. They are poisinous for dogs, just like grapes or raisins. If your dog accidentaly ate Macademia Nuts, look for sign of weakness, vomiting, shivering and diarrhea. You should contact your vet immediatelly after your dog ate them, so the vet can induce vomitting. Of course, if large breed eat one macademia nut, it will not kill him, but these are very dangerous for dogs.
