Lets start with the easiest one, which is Airedale Terrier. It is much bigger dog, than the other two, which makes them easily recognizable. Airedale Terrier height is around 60 cms, while the Welsh and Lakeland Terrier height is only up to 40 cms. So as you can see, its not that hard to distinguish Airedale Terrier from the other two and that is why i will mainly focus on differences between Welsh and Lakeland Terrier.
Both dogs are black and tan, but only for Welsh Terrier, it is a only breed standard. Lakeland Terrier can be in many differenet colours. Welsh Terrier actually look like small version of Airedale Terrier i mention in the beginning. Both have black back and tan head, legs and hindquaters. Lakelend can be in other colors such as solid black, dark gray, wheaten, red and brown.
Lakeland, Welsh and Airedale Terriers are brave, fearless dogs. It is recommended to not provoke them, they can become agressive, but if you are nice to them, they will be nice to you as well. I said that Welsh Terrier is easier to train than the other two. Well that is a true, but as all terriers, none of these dogs is actually easy to train dog breed and they are not the best choice for novice dog owners. But of course, with strong leadership and patience, it is achievable to have obedient welsh, airedale or lakeland terrier.
Welsh Terrier is little bit friendlier than the other two, but the truth is, that all of them are very friendly dogs and all of them are very intelligent dogs. They are extremely affectionate towards their family, incredible with small kids – especially the Welsh Terrier love kids and they are okay with other dogs and strangers.
